My son was watching the old TV series a few months back, and I just laughed and laughed. I went years mispronouncing Tobias's name in my head until a friend told me the right way. I still say it wrong when reading to myself, though. LOL.

I don't know if there are official e-book versions (Scholastic tried to re-release the series recently and it didn't do very well, so I don't know that they'd put in the effort for e-book versions), but I'm sure there are pdfs of the books out there somewhere if you search hard enough. XD Oh man, the TV show was so cheesy but I loved it so much at the time. I used to tape the episodes. I was just a LITTLE obsessed. >.>

I didn't know where else to put this. The picture is of two white boards that hang in my entry way. The top one always says the same thing, the bottom one is open for my boys to access and write on. I read a book on personal growth that encourages making a plan with tangible steps for growth in any particular area. So instead of simply saying, "I'm going to be a better dad," I was encouraged to take tangible steps to that end. I often come home with ideas of something fun to do, and sometimes I asked my boys what they wanted to do, but, I thought, why not do this, let them lead the play/activity whatever time of day or night they think of it? I've had it up for about a year and there has been no end to the surprises they'll throw up there. It ranges from "just hug" to "build a car" to "go on an adventure." (I told them listing "disneyworld" or the like would result in a LONG wait before anything like it happened.) Today, I woke up to see this and realized LS/M has insinuated himself into my life more than I even knew. They know about FTS, they know I sit chatting with you guys and sometimes read along (though some days I have to have them avert their eyes for a few lines), they tried to help solve the IP for minecraft, they drew "holes" for me a few weeks ago, the oldest asks about the poem whenever he sees it on the screen, he asks "are you playing M's game?" When he sees me with multiple tabs open and an intense look on my face, they all love superfight, they all want to play on the MC server but thus far I haven't let them (I may if needed, with a strict set of rules). The oldest was the one throwing out suggestions the other night for which issues to look at in the KC Sun. So I guess tonight I'm going to sit down and give him a run down from the beginning the best I know how. I know he'll be intrigued by the puzzles, but I'm betting he'll really dig the story elements as well. I'm going to only give him solid info, what we know to be certain so I don't color him with our current state and send him down a rabbit hole of my (our) doing. If he ends up in one, I'll help him out. If I just let him loose from Line 5, I'm really curious to see where he takes it, if anywhere. Attachments:

jed, you're such an cool parent! i really like your plan, and i'm excited for B! also, i apologize for probably being part of an 'advert your eyes' episode. maybe we can have some kind of code word or even a "we" thrown in from you, so i/we know to tone it down to an all-ages friendly chat? i do want everyone to feel welcome and able to participate!

Nah, I don't expect anyone to be/act like anything other than they are. He's understanding and nonjudgmental. He knows that sometimes adults talk about things that kids either don't need to or shouldn't hear about. He's happy to just share in something with me and trusts that I can summarize if need be or that he doesn't need to see/know it if not. And it's only been once or twice anyway, so don't sweat it. Wishing I'd left that line out now. I can see it sounds judgmental, which I absolutely am not.

no, no! it does not sound judgmental at all! i dig cool kids. i've lived with kids before - four boys. i definitely was still always myself, and acted as i usually do, i just limit my cursing a bit and make less adult-oriented jokes. it sounds like both you and your offspring have a great grasp of reality and "how the world works" so i won't sweat it, but ONLY if you don't regret telling us about that! still makes me way, way happier to know he wants to help and follow along than it makes me feel "worried" about a kid being around or "bad" about anything typed, i promise! tell him thanks for the insight that he has given so far and that i look forward to his ideas and input! EDIT: wondering why you haven't let them play on the server? (also, not judging, just wondering). if it's because the "world" is a mess (i still don't fully understand mc) and their character could get hurt or the scene is frightening, i get that. but if it's because they aren't "part" of fts therefore you wouldn't want them to mess anything up or change anything, i can't imagine they could do a fraction of the damage that the hackers or the in-game mean thingies (grifters?) did. if that's the case, i'd vote to just let them play (as long as they don't mess with kaylen's cat farms) but obviously it's not my call for a multitude of reasons. just wanted to throw that out here!

also, since it's the general board, i'll tell my story of my first (that i know of) fts related dream the other night. no solutions, unfortunately, and it's a bit foggy trying to remember. basically, i'd travelled somewhere for an fts mission, and was in some sort of mall food court or something public of the like. i was ordering coffee or something, and chatting with the employee (i think?). suddenly, it dawned on me (and her?) that considering i was there for fts, that everyone else would be there for fts, also. i remember being super excited knowing that i'd walk out the shop door and be able to find you all wandering around and meet everyone! then i woke up.
but, it got me thinking, that if we DID all meet up for fts, how cool would it be if jed's kids and lucky's kids and chak's kid and whatever other kids are associated with fts folk could have their own little puzzle fun time and i don't even know what but i just thought it would be really neat to see the group of fts-related kids party.

well, at first it was a pretty sensitive ecosystem that I couldn't guarantee they wouldn't disrupt, inadvertently or not. They are still learning. Then it became a bit of a mess as you say and I figured it wouldn't hold as much appeal.
Ah, you don't know my two youngest...and the "trouble" kids can get into even when they are sweet and innocent and don't actually try to. They could definitely do a fraction of that damage. They could probably even muster a fraction with a numerator bigger than the denominator. Actually, they are pretty good at respecting other people's stuff, but I'd worry about accidental creeper pulls and such. They're just not as experienced. And they don't have the skills or time to fix something they might accidentally destroy. see, exactly that. I have a hard enough time defending me own actions to Kaylen ("did you milk my cow and take a cookie from the cookie jar?" I. I don't *think* I did mom. I'm not sure. I'm pretty sure not. ;P, I wouldn't be able to answer with certainty if I were responsible for 3 other accounts.

haha! i totally hear ya. you know your boys better than i ever could! and i also don't understand much of the minecraft world "they could probably even muster a fraction with a numerator bigger than the denominator" - you have a very clever, funny way of putting things that i really enjoy. and since i roped kaylen into this, as a disclaimer, i'll say i was just goofing around. in my opinion, sure, she wants to know what's going on with the stuff she maintains. and will enquire with fellow fts-mcers if she's trying to solve a mystery, but i think she's a sweet person who would totally understand that cookies and cows might get eaten or played with (hopefully in that order) by a couple of kids regardless, i get your point. i hope there's lots of other stuff that comes up that they can get their hands dirty with, though!

HAVING A LOT OF FEELS HERE, jedpeter. This is so incredibly sweet. I am so happy we are all in each other's lives, and that includes everybody in your respective families who knows and supports our FTS efforts. I appreciate all of you! (waves to the people sneaking quick peeks at the screen ) PS: Shoutout as well to option D) Roller Skate, and if we ever do want to have an FTS get-together, let's do it at Oaks Park in Portland, because they have a huge old-school wooden floor roller rink in the amusement park there!

/crawls out of lurking
Just wanted to say hi to everyone and that I am so excited to FINALLY get more Starlight! I know LS has been a super busy guy but I have to admit I have been diligently checking my Tumblr feed daily only for FTS. It's been a long wait but chapter one was a blast and I can't wait to see what chapter two has in store for us. I have to say that with various schedule conflicts and health complications, I probably wont be in chat too much but I will try to keep up here and on Tumblr at least. I'm looking forward to working with you brilliant folks again. Take care!
