I am relatively certain that the arrow on the sign in Kaylen's picture is not actually an arrow, and is just a part of the minecraft item selector box.

Kaylen says it's NOT an arrow, merely the Minecraft crosshairs looking like one in the screenshot.

my best guess is that they are what they kind of first reminded me of. has any one else ever been hiking? they look like trail markers.

Not a bad idea, Tako.

This is kind of going off the whole religious practices, but in Wicca, the elements are used in directions. As said earlier, Air is typically used as North, Earth is East, Fire is South, and Water is west.
It varies depending on the source, but got that info from someone whose been practicing for 20 years.

whoa, love the theory danagel!! i started looking up directional correspondents to the elements (i already had the card suit one) and most of the hits are theories (including wiccan) that have earth as north. however, there's celtic/tarot theory, too, which sometimes has air as north. they can both be seen here: occult-advances.org/elements.shtml (there's a LOT of stuff on this page - i'm just referring to the chart near the top) this has air=north earth=south fire=east water=west it could very well be an entirely different/made up key, but it seems like it also may match some pre-existing set. considering we're also dealing with 4 suits of playing cards, i like the idea of these sets of 4 things matching up with some meaning/intent. here's another page with ideas: forums.riverofenlightenment.com/index.php?topic=2156.0;wap2specifically explaining that there's different opinions about matching elements with directions: "... the elements correspond to the cardinal points. These again are up for interpretation." just some ideas, but i'm sure you all can do searches as well for more info EDIT: aw, shucks. i just saw cvxn's post that kaylen says it's not an arrow, just rendering in minecraft making it look so. if true, possibly scratch the above.

M just posted onesmallfire's picture, with the following message: I'm curious, can anyone think of people who might have bought Kickstarter kits who were more active in the Prologue? I would think M thought they would be "motivated to seek" the answer later on down the line, but maybe haven't been as involved now. I wasn't around during the Prologue, so I'm not sure who to pinpoint.

I wasn't around during the Prologue, so I'm not sure who to pinpoint. This spreadsheet seems to indicate that only enaxor got a wooden kit with a photo: docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AmbvHo9AZ5U6dFRtMDYxSWVKTG5rTFlJQ2NEN2ZiWmc&usp=sharingMost/all of the wooden kits were received or found in the down time between the Prologue and the start of Chapter One (to my memory; I came in after the Blue Key puzzle was solved but just as the alchemy kits were turning up). So I think we've been in touch with everyone who has a photo in their kit. (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AmbvHo9AZ5U6dDg0ZzB1T0NOOTVTRDNhcmE3M0Z3cnc&usp=sharing) I think we also need to consider that some of the people who haven't responded to multiple Tumblr messages might have something going on in their real life (good or bad) that is keeping them away from their computers or preventing them from looking for the secret message just yet. :/

Based on M's room, and the grid layout he seems to be setting up there, Danagel had the idea of putting elements in the holes along the sides of the wall.
I've run with that and set up a grid and started laying out the words from the photographs on it. The configuration that seems to work the best is with the first symbol mapping to the vertical axis and the second symbol mapping to the horizontal axis. Here's a picture.
You can see that some reasonable phrases are starting to coalesce. "Lifeless stir" "a trip begins"
EDIT:Darn, that "Fire" in the lower left square should be "Grand"

While I think you're definitely on to something, there are some details that need clarification about M's room grid layout. I hope you still proceed down this route, as it's the most promising so far, and can make this alteration work. The slots/receptacles along the sides made of gold blocks have room to receive 4 elements. While the inner dark obsidian grid layout is 3x3. It's hard to tell from the low angle of the shot, and we can't fly so we can't get you a birds eye view, but the four slots don't line up with the 3x3 portion that is currently filled with glowstone (yellowish cobblestone looking block). The golden receptacles along the two walls would actually bracket those spots. Here's a diagram. Sorry, no graph paper. The door is in the south wall, if that matters. I drew the room as it exists in game, with North to the top. The room itself is 12x12 I believe. The upper right corner is where the layout starts. Otherwise there is a little extra space of bare bedrock floor to the right and bottom (east and south) Hope this helps! Edit: the more I think about it. The more I think cornchak is exactly right and the grid was merely laid out as it is to make us think grid. 4 notes, four symbols on each. 4x4 makes sense. Attachments:

Ok, the confluence of the gold in the corner would correspond with "origin" the intersection of x and y axes, correct? Further reenforcing your idea of a grid layout.
The chests had the order, on both axes though as Fire, Earth, Water. Because he didn't use Air (an empty bucket would have worked well), we don't know if it's supposed to be the furthest from or the closest to the origin. But that does only leave two options for layout to try.
If/when I can get back in, I'd like to lay out what you have labeled with signs on the glowstone in-game. Maybe he'll let us know somehow if we're on the right track.

just saw the pictures, i see colored squares as well. usually water=blue, fire=red, earth=brown, and air looks like a blank gap (filled with air, ha)... i think you guys are really on to something!
